"The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini -- A review

Stuck in my ofc waiting for the rain gods to give way .... just happened to browse past my now neglected blog , and as always am thinking of excuses .... instead lemme do smthg which i havnt tried my hand at .... a "book review"
The most recent book i happened to read ... by accident, courtesy my cousins unscheduled visit not only to bangalore but subsequently to a book store here ... i happened to notice this one , i had recently heard a friend talk abt .... " The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini ...
The story line is really touching and the setting in the 60's to the mid 80's in afganistan is really well done .... goin thru the book page after page u get the feel of actually being there and get ... kind of a first hand experience of the socio political situation of afghanistan during the those turbulent times .... now i cant really get into the literary aspects to the writing as i dont consider myself competent enuf to do that ..... but its the kind of story which engrosses u .... makes u experience a spectre of feelings ... of angst, of helplessness, of envy, of pride, of friendship, of love, of devotion and what not .... all in all a complete novel ..... u just cant put down ...
The pro american touch throughout the book is quite expected given the fact that the author had been given political assylum by the US during most turbulent times in afghanistan .....
The period and the events covered by "the kite runner" probably still has a very huge influence on the socio political scene across the world including india even today ...
so ****** and a biiiiiiiiig reco frm me :)
